DeWitt, NY -- A DeWitt officer suffered minor injuries and a Mattydale woman was ticketed for speeding in an Interstate 481 crash this morning, DeWitt police said.

Officer Jeffrey MacDonald, 45, was in his patrol car about 8:30 a.m. on the southbound off ramp on I-481 to the state Department of Transportation site near Interstate 690 west investigating a van-deer crash when the crash occurred. Both the patrol car and van were off the left side of the ramp and the patrol car's emergency lights were on, police said.

Erin Gustke, 19, of Mattydale, was southbound on the highway when she saw the deputy's lights and attempted to slow down, police said. Gustke lost control of her car on the wet pavement and her car did a 180-degree turn as it left the highway, deputies said. As the car left the highway, it struck MacDonald's car, police said.

MacDonald was taken to a hospital with minor injuries and both cars had to be towed from the scene, police said.

Gustke was not injured and was ticketed for speeding.
