Cicero, NY – A Cicero man was taken to the hospital Wednesday after he was struck in the head with the handle to a vacuum by his girlfriend, police said.
Police said Joseph Tilkens left the residence he shared with the woman on Brewerton Road and began to walk south. People saw him walking and, alarmed by the blood from the cut to his head, called 911 shortly after 5 p.m.
Before officers could arrive, a friend drove Tilkens to the Town of Clay offices on state Route 31 where an ambulance was called.
Tilkens was taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital Health Center by NAVAC.
The girlfriend, whom police identified as Cathy Christensen of 8827 Brewerton Road, was charged with third-degree assault and was being held by Cicero police Wednesday evening.
