Steven M. Krause, a Skaneateles architect who designed buildings in Central New York including the Panasci Family Chapel (above) at LeMoyne College, died Saturday following a car crash on Friday.
Skaneateles, NY -- Steven M. Krause, a widely known Skaneateles architect who designed several buildings in Central New York, died this morning following a one-car accident on East Lake Road in Spafford, New York State police said.
Krause, 50, of Woodmere Terrace, was a partner in QPK Design in Syracuse and a member of the Skaneateles Planning Board.
He had done work all over the state, including the design for the new firehouse for the Skaneateles Fire Department, and buildings at Skidmore College and Colgate University. He also designed the Panasci Family Chapel at LeMoyne College.
This is the Skaneateles Fire Station designed by Steven Krause. Local officials said Krause's design and presentation helped overcome opposition to the project. Passersby called police at about 4:45 p.m. Friday after they discovered Krause’s 2005 Audi off Route 41 in Spafford.
State police said it appears Krause was driving north on Route 41 when the vehicle lost control, crossed the center line and went off the west side of the road. The vehicle hit a tree breaking it in two. It then spun 90 degrees with the passenger side striking a large group of trees, police said.
Krause was taken to Upstate University Hospital, where he died early this morning, police said.
State police continue to investigate the accident, but said it appears the vehicle was traveling too fast for the rainy conditions.
