Members of sheriff's office to be honored at annual awards ceremony

Syracuse, NY -- Thirty members of the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office and three civilians will be honored during the sheriff’s annual award ceremony Monday at the Gillette Road Middle School, Cicero. Syracuse, NY -- Thirty members of the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office and three civilians will be honored during the sheriff’s annual award ceremony Monday at the Gillette Road Middle School, Cicero.

The one-hour ceremony will begin at 6 p.m. in the school, 6150 South Bay Road.

The Medal of Honor, the office’s highest award, will be presented to Deputy Michael Bradley, 30, of Syracuse, for confronting and arresting an armed suspect.

Five deputies will receive the Medal of Valor, the second highest award, for their actions at a house fire. The deputies are Robert Bell, 28, of Elbridge; Michael Doupe, 32, of Phoenix; Crayg Dykes, 40, of Cicero; Timothy Hahn, 34, of Clay; and Timothy Kelly, 49, of Kirkville.

The three civilians being honored are Lateef Haskins, of Liverpool, for his actions at a house fire; Mark Merwin, of Clay, for his actions at a car crash and fire; and Diane Surace, of North Syracuse, for identifying a suspect in a larceny.

In addition, 18 members of the sheriff’s office will receive Certificates of Merit and six will receive Medals of Distinction.
