Syracuse, NY -- A pedestrian was injured this morning when he was struck by a Syracuse police car that had just smacked into a tree on South Salina Street, Syracuse police said.
Officer Brandon Fougnier was driving south on South Salina Street about 5:50 a.m. when a green Pontiac pulled out in front of the patrol car at West Ostrander Avenue, Deputy Police Chief Joe Cecile said.
Fougnier swerved to avoid the Pontiac but struck a tree, Cecile said. The car bounced off the tree and hit Ulysses Martin, 22, of McCallister Avenue, Cecile said.
Martin suffered a minor injury to his head and was taken to University Hospital, where he is expected to be treated and released, Cecile said. Fougnier was not injured in the crash.
The patrol car suffered front-end damage in the crash.
