Syracuse, NY - Two Syracuse men were indicted today in connection with an armed holdup at a South Side restaurant that led to shots being fired at a police officer and an hours-long stand-off.
Aaron Jackson, 20, of 146 Wolf St., was indicted on single counts of first- and second-degree attempted murder and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and three counts of first-degree robbery.
Jermain Grimes, 21, of 1202 South Ave., was indicted on three counts of first-degree robbery.
Both are accused of robbing at gunpoint three people inside Omanii’s Lemonade Heaven at 1206 South Ave. on Aug. 17. Authorities said Grimes set up the heist and acted as a lookout while Jackson actually carried out the holdup with a handgun.
The second-degree attempted murder charge accuses Jackson of trying to kill Antonio Cordero, identified by the owner of the business as the restaurant’s cook who chased Jackson from the premises.
The first-degree attempted murder charge accuses Jackson of firing a gunshot at Syracuse police Officer John “Jerry” Mulherin when Mulherin arrived on the scene after being notified of the robbery-in-progress by a passing mail carrier.
Authorities said Mulherin fired three shots at Jackson before Jackson fled into the back part of the building housing a number of apartments. That led to a several-hour-long standoff before Jackson surrendered to police.
