Syracuse, NY -- A Syracuse man received a minor stab wound Wednesday evening after after he answered a knock on the door to his North Alvord Street apartment, police said.
The man who police said knocked on the door, James Butler, 60, of 900 N. Alvord St., was charged with assault, a felony, and criminal possession of a weapon, a misdemeanor.
Butler told police he was trying to remove from his apartment building a woman he believed to be a prostitute. Butler told police the woman went into an apartment and when Butler knocked at that apartment, a man opened the door and punched him.
Mark Hennessy told police he was watching television in his apartment when Butler knocked on the door after 6 p.m. Hennessy said he opened the door and Butler asked him where the girl went. When Hennessy said he didn’t know, Butler stabbed him in the right arm, police said.
Hennessy told police he grabbed Butler by the throat and struck him several times in the face to prevent Butler from stabbing him again.
Hennessy had a superficial scratch from the stabbing and did not need medical attention, police said.
Butler was uncooperative and refused to give a statement, police said.
