President Obama says he no longer expects 'full partnership' with GOP

Obama sarcastically calls meeting with Senate Republican caucus 'warm and fuzzy.'

After a rare meeting with the Senate Republican caucus on Tuesday, which President Obama sarcastically called 'warm and fuzzy,' he delivered some of his harshest criticisms of the opposing party to date.

At a fundraiser for Senator Barbara Boxer in California later on Tuesday, Obama said, "There are members of their base who think if somebody even smiles at me, they think, ‘You’re a traitor...The day has passed when I expected this to be a full partnership."

Obama went to the meeting on Capitol Hill in search of support on several hot-button issues, including immigration and climate change, and came away blaming Republicans for the lack of bipartisanship in Washington. “You don’t even have to meet me halfway. I’ll bring most Democrats on these issues. I’m just looking for eight or 10 of you,” he said at the Boxer fundraiser. Obama also teased the GOP about 'sitting on the sidelines' for political gain in the midterm elections.

Meanwhile, Republican lawmakers took some shots of their own at the President after the contentious meeting. "He needs to take a Valium before he comes in and talks to Republicans," Senator Pat Roberts told The Washington Post. "He's pretty thin-skinned."
