Syracuse, NY--Temperatures today in Syracuse will chase the record books.
Today’s forecast is for a high in the upper 80s. That means it could reach the record of 89 degrees set in 1978, said Brian Lovejoy, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Binghamton.
“It’s a good chance that the record could be approached, or tied. It’s possible that it could go into the 90s,” he said this morning.
The normal high for this date is 72 degrees.
The heat came up from the southeast corner of the U.S., spread north into the central states, and is now moving east into our area, Lovejoy said.
A cold front coming through late Thursday night into Friday morning will bring some showers and thunderstorms that will knock temperatures back to normal, he said.
Look for highs in the mid 70s and lows in the 50s Friday through Sunday. There’s a 30 percent chance of rain on Memorial Day.
If it does rain on the holiday, it won’t be all day, Lovejoy said.
