Syracuse, NY - Syracuse’s Lincoln Park pool may remain closed this summer because of a leaky pipe, but the city will soon begin filling its seven other outdoor pools.
Pools at Onondaga and Thornden parks are scheduled to open June 19, parks Commissioner Pat Driscoll said Tuesday. Pools at Burnet and Schiller parks will open the next day.
Swimming will resume June 28 at pools at Kirk, McKinley, and Wilson parks.
The Lincoln Park pool, located on Robinson Street near Henninger High School, may stay closed for the season because a pipe under the deck needs repairs, Driscoll said. The city won’t know how extensive or costly the job will be until workers get a closer look, he said.
For now, crews are focusing instead on getting ready the seven other outdoor pools.
About 70,000 people swim in the city’s pools each year. Those at Thornden, Schiller and Burnet parks typically draw the biggest crowds.
The city’s budget problems have not affected the pool operations, Driscoll said. Public swimming will remain free.
Children and adult swim lessons are offered at some pools. The fee is $10 for city residents, $35 for non-city residents.
