ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — A new poll shows Democratic Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand leading Republican challenger Joe DioGuardi by 11 percentage points.
The Marist College poll of likely voters released Tuesday shows Gillibrand with 52 percent support, compared to 41 percent for DioGuardi.
Looking at regional results, Gillibrand leads by a statistically insignificant margin among upstate voters and DioGuardi leads in the suburbs, which includes the former congressman's base of support in Westchester County. Gillibrand is far ahead in New York City, with about two-thirds support.
Sen. Charles Schumer leads Jay Townsend by 58 percent to 37 percent in the poll.
The survey of 617 likely voters was conducted Sept. 19-22. It has a margin of error of 4 percentage points.
