Syracuse, NY -- Syracuse police made a quick arrest late Sunday of a man accused of participating in an armed vehicle theft on Butternut Street. They are still looking for a second man believed to have carried a handgun during the robbery.
Brian Simmons, 22, of 433 Albert Terrace, was charged with felony robbery and misdemeanor criminal impersonation, said Sgt. Gary Bulinski. He attempted to give a fake name when police questioned him, police said.
The victim, Mahmed Ali, 30, told police he was dropping a friend off in the 700 block of Butternut Street about 11 p.m. when two men approached him.
One man had a handgun and the other pulled Ali from the 2003 Dodge Caravan, Bulinski said.
Police found the minivan a short time later a few blocks away, in the 100 block of Peters Street, Bulinski said. They located Simmons walking a short distance from the vehicle.
Anyone with information about the case is asked to call Syracuse police at 442-5222.
