Syracuse, NY -- Heading to Saturday's Colgate-Syracuse University football game? Syracuse police have a suggestion: Leave early and plan to stay late.
Construction on Interstate 81 near the SU campus has caused traffic delays on the highway that will certainly repeat Saturday as the kickoff gets near, police said.
The onramp to northbound I-81 at Harrison Street which closed early in the week will likely have an impact as football fans leave the Dome, police said. Officers may detour traffic away from the Harrison and Almond streets intersection.
Fans may want to consider getting onto I-81 southbound and using Interstate 481 as an alternative route to head north, police said.
Police ask fans not to attempt to park near the Dome unless in possession of a parking permit for lots in the area of the Dome.
Police suggest fans use the Skytop parking area. Parking there is $10 and includes a shuttle bus between Skytop parking and the campus.
