Syracuse police have cordoned off several blocks of South State Street between West Colvin and Castle streets.
A number of police cars are in the area, and officers are standing at different locations on the block, appearing to look between the houses. A helicopter is flying over the scene, and Chief Frank Fowler is on scene. Members of the department's Emergency Response Team, armed with automatic weapons and wearing flak jackets, patrolled the area.
Fowler said there was a report of shots fired, but police don't know who fired them. We will provide more information as we get it.
