A 19-year-old woman whose actions caused a crash Friday night in Armory Square that damaged four cars and a building was charged with driving while intoxicated, Syracuse police said.

Amanda Thornton, 19, of 4855 Burrstone Road, town of Onondaga, was charged with driving while intoxicated and operating a motor vehicle with a BAC greater than 0.08, both misdemeanors, and driving without lights, a motor vehicle and traffic violation.

The crash occurred just after 11 p.m. Friday, police said. Thornton’s vehicle went through a red light, causing a Jeep to swerve to avoid her, police said. The Jeep struck a parked car, which struck a second car which then struck a third, police said.

The Jeep continued into a stairwell of the Jefferson Clinton Commons, where it came to rest. No one was injured.

Witnesses told police that a car forced the Jeep to hit the other cars, police said.

Thornton’s car was not touched in the crash, but police said her actions caused the crash.

Police were unable to identify the driver of the Jeep because records were not available Saturday.
