ALBANY, N.Y. — Former Buffalo Bills star Thurman Thomas is trying to do an end run around those trying to paint Republican candidate for governor Carl Paladino as a racist who doesn’t care for the poor.
Thomas says in a YouTube video released Friday that he’s known Paladino for years as a man who created hundreds of jobs for people of color and funded a homeless mission for 15 years to feed, educate and house Buffalo’s poorest families.
Thomas says in the campaign video that Paladino isn’t a racist and he’ll be a governor for all New Yorkers.
Democrats and others have criticized Paladino for forwarding racist and sexist e-mails to his friends in the past. Paladino has said he regrets that.
There was no immediate comment from Democratic nominee Andrew Cuomo.
