Syracuse, NY -- A Skaneateles man is in custody this morning accused of trying to flee from Syracuse police and attempted aggravated assault of an officer.
Police accuse Gregory Giocondo, 41, of 5 Orchard Road of attempted aggravated assault of a police officer and driving while intoxicated, both felonies. He is also accused of unlawfully fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle and resisting arrest, both misdemeanors, along with multiple vehicle and traffic law violations.
He is in the Onondaga County Justice Center this morning awaiting arraignment in Syracuse City Court.
Here’s what police said happened.
At about 12:30 this morning a police officer saw a 2003 Ford Taurus make an illegal U turn in the 100 block of Columbus Avenue.
The officer tried to stop the car, but the driver, identified as Giocondo, refused and led police on a short chase. The chase ended minutes later when the Ford drove on to the 100 block of Somerset Road, which is a dead end.
The driver tried to turn the Ford around and intentionally struck the front of a police car.
Giocondo was quickly caught by police when he tried to run away.
