Construction crews hoisted the final steel beam into place Wednesday on the emergency services building being constructed at St. Joseph’s Hospital Health Center in Syracuse.
The building, expected to open next summer, will house a larger emergency department with 54 beds and a 15-bed clinical observation unit with a five-bed chest pain center. The building also will house St. Joe’s emergency psychiatric program.
The building is part of a larger $220 million expansion at the hospital that also will include operating rooms, an intensive care unit, private patient rooms and a new data center.
