The Auburn Enlarged City School District has received a $100,000 grant from Lowe’s and plans to use the money to modernize its high school technology facilities, officials said Tuesday.
The grant was awarded by Lowe’s Charitable and Educational Foundation, one of 20 regional donations given to schools and communities in the U.S. and Canada, according to the company.
“The improvements at Auburn High School will offer students tremendous learning opportunities and Lowe’s is excited to help make these projects possible,’’ company spokesman Steve Salazar said in an e-mail.
The district has big plans for the money. It plans to buy new welding equipment, power saws and other hand and power tools, modern workbenches and workstations, and tool chests for its six technology classrooms, according to Larry Garuccio, building and grounds superintendent. The classrooms will also be remodeled and redesigned, and the work is expected to be finished in November, Garuccio said.
The grant will enable students to practice on tools and equipment that are used in the real work environment and give them a competitive edge as they seek employment and college opportunities, Garuccio said.
“Bottom line, it’s all for the students,’’ Garuccio said.
