Syracuse, NY - A court appearance for Syracuse University football player Delone Carter scheduled for this afternoon has been postponed.
Defense lawyer Kimberly Zimmer said no new date has yet been set for the case to be back in court.
Carter, a redshirt senior running back who has gained 91 yards in each of the Orange's first two games this season, is facing a misdemeanor assault charge stemming from an attack on another SU student in February.
Authorities contend Carter punched William Hotaling in the face, knocking him to the ground, after a snowball struck the vehicle in which Carter was riding with several others. Officials have said Hotaling had nothing to do with the snowball-throwing incident that led to the assault.
Carter was suspended from SU for the end of the spring semester and the entire summer semester but was allowed to return to school - and the football team - last month.
The court case, pending before City Judge Langston McKinney, has been postponed several times. Both Zimmer and Chief Assistant District Attorney Joseph Coolican have declined to comment on the reasons for the adjournments or what progress is being made toward resolving the case.
