Hundreds of people on both sides gathered in Binghamton Monday for public hearings on a federal environmental study of a natural gas drilling technique aimed at tapping Marcellus shale, a rich formation beneath much of the Northeast, for natural gas through a process called hydraulic fracturing or hydrofracking.
Supporters say the method is safe, while opponents say it has polluted drinking water in areas where it has been used. Here's what syracuse.com user libsarewhacked had to say:
"The debate is simple. If you own land and will get paid you are for this, if you don't you are against it. I say good for those lucky ones who will get paid. I'm willing to bet that those opposed would sing a different tune if a gas company showed up at your door with a check. Jealousy is a sin, people. Let it go."
