With the campaign in its final week, blitzes in broadcast advertising and direct mail will target core voters. But turnout operations are key, and with the traditional voter-rich Manhattan base carved so much it's minced, the candidates are shifting their focus north.
Take Buffalo, for example: Several local primaries for the Assembly and Senate will drive Democrats to the polls, Erie County Democratic Chairman Len Lenihan said, and the attorney general wannabes are hoping votes can trickle up.
"If you can win Erie County in the primary ... you're saddled up pretty good for the fall," he said. "I think Buffalo's a key battleground, no doubt about it."
