Syracuse, NY - An East Syracuse man on probation for improper conduct with a young boy was arraigned today on an indictment charging him with engaging in sexual conduct with another boy.
Authorities said Senad Mesic was linked to the sexual assault case by DNA he was forced to provide a state database as a result of his earlier conviction.
Mesic, 44, of 1027 Kinne St., was indicted last week on a felony count of second-degree criminal sexual act and misdemeanor counts of second-degree sexual abuse and endangering the welfare of a child.
Assistant District Attorney Geoffrey Ciereck said Mesic is accused of engaging in an act of oral sexual conduct with a 13-year-old boy on June 12, 2009, in the town of Manlius.
Mesic was arrested more than a year later after authorities matched DNA from that crime to a DNA sample Mesic was forced to provide a state database after he was convicted last year of an unrelated child endangering charge, Ciereck said. The prosecutor said that earlier case involved Mesic's improper conduct in the presence of a 12-year-old boy in DeWitt that did not involve sexual contact with the youth.
Onondaga County Judge William Walsh entered a "not guilty" plea for Mesic at his arraignment this morning. The judge ordered Mesic to remain in jail with bail set at $100,000 cash or $200,000 bond pending a return to court next week.
