Syracuse, NY -- A homeless man was charged with arson this morning after he turned himself over to Syracuse police and told them he started a fire Monday afternoon in a Bank Street refuse container.
Harold Kelley, 55, was charged with arson and reckless endangerment, both misdemeanors.
Kelley contacted police early this morning and was taken into custody at the Regional Transportation Center. Kelley told police he set the fire in the trash container in the 200 block of Bank Street because he’s “mad at Albany for treating us like crap and overtaxing us.” Kelley handed over to police the disposable lighter he said he started the fire with, police said.
The fire damaged the trash container but was quickly put out by the Syracuse Fire Department before it could damage the building next to it, police said.
