Syracuse, NY -- A male stabbing victim was being treated at a hospital early Saturday after an incident at South Salina and West Fayette streets in downtown Syracuse.
Police had one person in custody following the incident, Sgt. Gary Bulinski said. Neither the name of the victim nor the suspect was available.
According to Bulinski, the suspect and victim had returned by bus from the New York State Fair and may have gotten into a dispute in transit.
After they got off the bus about 11:20 p.m. Friday, the victim and suspect encountered each other again, Bulinski said. Investigators still were uncertain what happened next, but the victim received several stab wounds to the torso, he said.
The victim was taken to Upstate University Hospital for treatment. Bulinski said he was uncertain of the victim's condition as of 12:10 a.m.
Police cordoned off a wide swath of the patio behind the Centro shelter in front of the Chase Building on the northwest corner of South Salina and West Fayette. Officers with flashlights could be seen searching for evidence.
Bulinski said witnesses were cooperating, but asked anyone with information to call the Criminal Investigations Division at 442-5222.
