Geddes, NY -- No one was injured when a coolant tower briefly caught fire around 3 p.m. today across from the New York state fairgrounds, a Crucible Industries security official said.
A fairgrounds state trooper reported a puff of black smoke from the plant, which sits across Bridge Street from the fair entrance.
The fire started at Crucible's melt shop cooling tower, which does not run during the fair. There was no one in that cooling tower at the time of the fire, a security official said.
The Solvay Fire Department responded.
Staff writers Catie O'Toole and John Mariani reported from the scene.
