Geddes, NY -- The city of Albany can now boast that it has the best-tasting drinking water in the state.
The water from Pulaski in Oswego County was a finalist. The village of St. Johnsville topped Pulaski in the top water from a groundwater source.
The capital’s water took first place in an unscientific taste test Tuesday at the State Fair in Syracuse. The village of St. Johnsville in Montgomery County was the runner-up among 10 water systems that reached the championship after winning regional contests.
Albany’s drinking water comes from the nearby Alcove Reservoir. In addition to being the top overall winner, Albany beat New York City as having the best tasting water from surface sources.
The other finalists were Afton in Chenango County; Clifton Park in Saratoga County; Clymer in Chautauqua County; Bolton Point in Tompkins County; Dix Hills in Suffolk County; New York City; Pulaski in Oswego County; and Ovid in Seneca County.
