Syracuse, NY -- Syracuse police identified the victim of Sunday's shooting on Glahn Avenue as Morgan McMahon, 25, of Fairfield Avenue. She remained in critical condition late Sunday.

Earlier: City police are investigating a shooting on Syracuse's south side this evening.

Shortly after 6 p.m., a Chevrolet Venture van stopped on Glahn Avenue, and occupants of the vehicle told residents a woman in the van had been shot in the head, witnesses said.

Police Sgt. Thomas Connellan said the woman was in "very critical" condition.

The woman, believed to be in her 20s, was in the van when police and Rural Metro 2010-05-23-mjg-Shooting2.JPGSyracuse police investigating a shooting put an evidence marker next to a baby bottle in the 600 block of West Colvin Street on Sunday evening. Ambulance crews arrived. Emergency responders said she was conscious. The woman's name has not been released by authorities.

About a dozen police cars blocked off Glahn Avenue to traffic as investigators looked in the van and questioned its occupants.

Police are not saying if they know where the woman was when she was shot. But investigators are searching a vacant lot behind the Midland Discount Market, located two blocks from Glahn Avenue, at Midland Avenue and West Colvin Street.
