Herkimer, NY – Officials are awaiting word from an Albany medical examiner on whether human remains found Saturday in a heavily wooded section of the town of Herkimer are those of a woman reported missing a year ago.
The remains were found by members of the Eagle Valley Search Dogs at a spot east of West Canada Creek and south of the CSX Railroad tracks, state police said.
Troopers said the remains seem consistent with those that would have been left by Lisa G. Bawolak, a Herkimer woman who was 44 when she was reported missing on Aug. 5, 2009.
The remains have been sent to Albany Medical Center to determine the cause and manner of death. Further study and an anthropological review will be needed to positively identify them, troopers said.
