Lafayette, NY -- A Fabius motorcyclist remains in critical condition today at Upstate University Hospital after being rescued from underneath a pickup truck Saturday on Collins Road in LaFayette, authorities said.
Charles Compton, 34, was riding northbound just before 4 p.m. when he left his 2000 Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle and slid under a southbound 2008 Chevrolet Silverado making a lefthand turn into a driveway, said state police Sgt. Amy Catanesye.
The truck had crossed the center line, but had not fully turned before the crash happened, Catanesye said.
A witness rescued Compton by using a jack to lift the pickup truck.
Troopers aren't sure why Compton left his motorcycle, which never hit the truck. The motorcycle ended up in a ditch about 180 feet north of the crash.
The pickup was driven by Chris Pisanti, 27, of Brewerton, state police said. The investigation is continuing.
