Auburn, NY -- Three kayakers were found safe this evening after a 1½ hour search on the Owasco Outlet by Auburn police and other agencies, Auburn police said.

Auburn police gave these details:

The search began after a 911 call at 5:26 p.m. from a 13-year-old stating that three kayakers were missing on the outlet between Canoga and Bradley streets.

After searching, police found Catherina Meyers, 31, of 157 Seymour St., on the Turnpike Road bridge over the outlet. Meyers told police that the two other missing kayakers did not pass her.

Police continued the search, bringing in the fire department and other police agencies to help.

At 7:05 p.m., the two other kayakers, Courtney L. Nash, 28, of 41 Delevan St., and a 13-year-old of the same address were located at 43 Allen St.

Nash told police the 13-year-old’s inflatable kayak had sprung a leak and the pair had to leave the water.

Both adult kayakers were issued tickets because Auburn city ordinance prohibits boating on the Owasco Outlet. There were no injuries to any of the kayakers.
