Drug Enforcement Agency takes over investigation into possible methamphetamine lab
Sylvan Beach, NY -- The Drug Enforcement Agency will take over the investigation into a possible methamphetamine lab found this morning by the state police in Sylvan Beach, state police said.
The drug investigation began about 5:15 a.m. after a state police investigator on his way to work heard an ambulance call for an unconscious male, state police Capt. Mark Lincoln said.
Investigator Dustin Hite arrived at 2501 Vienna Road with the ambulance and entered the house with the ambulance crew. As the unconscious man was being treated, Hite observed the remnants of a meth cooking operation, Lincoln said.
Methamphetamine, or meth, is a highly addictive central nervous system stimulant that can be injected, snorted, smoked, or ingested orally, according to the Office of National Drug Policy Website.
After the ambulance took the unconscious man away, Hite got a search warrant for the house and returned with investigators from the state police Community Narcotics Enforcement Team, Lincoln said.
There have been no arrests and the investigation will continue under the DEA, Lincoln said.
