Syracuse, NY – The entire Oswego Canal and the Erie Canal between lock 2 near the Hudson River and Lock 21 in Oneida County remain closed this morning, a state Thruway dispatcher said.
Sunday’s heavy rain swelled canal waters, displaced buoys and washed debris and trees into the system. Officials are monitoring water levels and waiting for them to recede, dispatcher Jeremy Leforte said.
Canal Corp. Director Carmella Mantello said Tuesday that she hoped to reopen the Oswego Canal as soon as today.
