Salina, NY – Members of the Onondaga County sheriff’s and district attorney’s staffs reached no conclusion during a meeting today on whether or what to charge anyone in last week’s fatal accident on Onondaga Lake Parkway, a spokesman for Sheriff Kevin Walsh said.

“There are no determinations yet. There still is a lot of work to be done on the (accident) reconstruction,” Sgt. John D’Eridita said. “The investigation needs to continue.”

The investigation will include locating and interviewing anyone who may have been on Onondaga Lake Parkway at the time of the accident, he said, particularly the driver of a white or silver van that other witnesses said was driving toward Syracuse ahead of vehicles involved in the crash. While they may not have seen the accident, D’Eridita said, their observations still may be of use.

People with information should call the sheriff’s Criminal Investigation Division at 435-3081, he said.

Investigators have said they believe the accident Aug. 16 stemmed from a “road rage” incident about 12:33 p.m. between Matthew Stephan, 22, of Clay, and John M. D’Amore, 21, of Salina. Police said D’Amore’s southbound car allegedly passed Stephan’s, which was heading in the same direction, and that when Stephan’s car tried to pass D’Amore’s it collided with a northbound car being driven by Maryann Denny, 40, of North Syracuse.

Denny was killed instantly and her passenger, the drivers of two other cars and Stephan required hospital treatment. D’Amore left the scene; investigators located him two days later.
