Lakeport, NY --A motorcyclist was injured today after he was ejected into the back seat of a convertible when his motorcycle struck the car.
Kathy Bandera, of Cicero, and her daughter, Melanie, had planned to buy a bicycle today. Bandera was driving her red Chevrolet Cavalier convertible with the top down as they drove east on state Route 31.
They passed the shop they were looking for when Bandera began to slow down and put her turn signal on to make a left turn onto Coulter Cove Road to turn back to the shop. As she did, Bandera said, she saw a motorcyclist about three to four blocks behind her.
“The next thing you know there was this big crash, and I felt something on the back of my head,” she said, standing on the side of Route 31 while her car was being towed away.
“My daughter said ‘Mom, there’s something in the backseat’,” Bandera said.
“There was this guy laying on the back seat and his feet were on her head,” she said, pointing to Melanie.
The motorcyclist, Perry Coss, 54, of 120 Oswego Ave., Canastota, told her that he was adjusting his bike’s mirror when the accident occurred, Bandera said.
The accident occurred at 1:26 p.m.
Coss was taken to a hospital, according to the New York State police officer on the scene. However, the officer said he had not completed his report and could not say where Coss was taken.
The Bridgeport Fire Department was also called to the scene.
A bent rim and a flat tire could be seen on the motorcycle as it was taken away from the scene. Bandera’s red convertible sustained damage to its rear.
Although the bicycle shop was only a 100 yards from the accident scene, neither Bandera was interested in looking at the bikes.
