North Syracuse, NY – Two residents were injured and their home damaged in a fire that struck a two-family house this morning at 248-248 ½ Chestnut St., a fire official said.
The North Syracuse, Moyers Corners, Liverpool and Mattydale fire departments responded shortly before 4 a.m. and found flame shooting from the second-floor windows of the two-family wood-frame home, North Syracuse Fire Chief Patrick J. Brennan said. The fire appears to have started in a second-floor bathroom and spread to the kitchen and living area, he said.
The four occupants, whose names Brennan did not know, had been awoken by a barking dog and escaped, Brennan said. The two upstairs residents sustained burns and were taken by ambulance to a hospital, which treated and released them, he said.
The fire was put out within 10 minutes, Brennan said. Firefighters spread tarps over the first floor to protect the structure and contents so its occupants should be able to move back in immediately, he said. The second floor will require repairs but did not appear to sustain structural damage, he said.
The cause remains under investigation, Brennan said.
The Red Cross has offered services to the residents, officials said.
