ST. REGIS MOHAWK RESERVATION, N.Y. (AP) — Authorities have released the identity of a 20-year-old man who was killed when two boats collided on the Canadian side of the St. Lawrence River.

Akwesasne Mohawk police say the body of Charles R. Cole Jr. of Hogansburg, N.Y., was pulled from the water by emergency crews about an hour after Wednesday’s early morning collision near the St. Regis Mohawk Reservation, which straddles the U.S.-Canadian border.

Canadian police said the boats were carrying several passengers when one broadsided the other in Quebec waters. Officials say four other men were injured.

Authorities say one of the boats was carrying several cases of cigarettes. It wasn’t immediately known if the cargo was contraband being smuggled across the border.

No charges have been filed.
