Cazenovia, NY--Sister Helen Prejean, author of “Dead Man Walking” and an advocate to end the death penalty, will speak at Cazenovia College Sept. 20.
Prejean’s speech as part of the Reisman Lecture Series is part of the college’s emphasis this fall on the judicial system, Donald McCrimmon, dean of faculty said in a press release.
All first year students at the college are required to read John Grisham’s novel “The Innocent Man” The college also plans to produce a play based on Prejean’s book.
“The college is encouraging students to take a critical look at the judicial system in the United States and begin to develop their own legal and moral positions about crime and the punishments meted out by our society,” McCrimmon said.
Prejean’s lecture will be held at 7 p.m. Sept. 20 at St. James Church. Tickets are free, but are required for admittance. There is a limit of four per request.
