Rome, NY--A driver escaped unharmed this morning before a train hit her car, which was stuck between tracks in Rome, according the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office.
The accident occurred at 1:44 a.m. on Greenway New London Road.
Here’s what sheriff’s deputies say happened.
Alyssa Zito, 21, of Whitesboro was driving her 2005 Saturn Ion north on Greenway New London Road when she realized she was lost.
Zito was attempting to turn the vehicle around on the CSX railroad tracks, when it got stuck between the eastbound and westbound tracks.
She got out of the car when she saw an eastbound train traveling down the tracks. The train, operated by Engineer Daniel Croteau, 46, of Ravena, then struck the car.
Zito was not injured in the accident, and no tickets were issued.
