Fulton County, NY -- Former Pompey businessman Jeffrey Alnutt has been sentenced to 25 years to life in prison for the 2007 murder of a tenant who died in a fire Alnutt set at one of his buildings, according to news reports.

WNYT and WRGB reported the sentencing of Alnutt, who was convicted in May.

Jurors spent about nine hours deliberating before finding the 55-year-old Alnutt guild of murder, manslaughter, arson and reckless endangerment in the December 21, 2009 death of a a 39-year-old woman in her second-floor apartment in Gloversville.

Prosecutors said Alnutt’s motive was the $307,000 insurance claim he submitted.

Alnutt is already in prison on a previous arson conviction.
