DeWitt, NY--New Process Gear Inc. Tuesday notified the New York State Department of Labor that it plans to lay off 107 workers in November.
The layoff date was listed as Nov. 15, according to a notice filed with the state.
New Process Gear, which is a division of Magna Powertrain, announced last year that it would close the auto parts plant in 2011. The decision came after workers three times rejected a contract calling for lower wages and benefits the company said it needed to keep the DeWitt plant open.
The state paperwork says that the reason for the November layoff is a plant closing. However, it doesn’t say when the plant will close.
In July, the company told the state that it plans to lay off 100 workers beginning Oct. 18.
The plant employs 1,100 workers who make transfer cases that turn two-wheeled drive vehicles into four-wheel drive. The plant employed 4,000 in 2002, at the height of the popularity of four-wheel drive sport utility vehicles.
