Salina, NY -- Onondaga County Sheriff Kevin Walsh has identified the driver and all but one of the victims of Monday's crash on the Onondaga Lake Parkway.

In a release, Walsh identified the driver of the Volkswagen that witnesses said attempted to pass another car by crossing into oncoming traffic, triggering a 12:33 p.m. crash that killed one person and sent three people to the hospital.

The driver was Matthew Stephan, 22, of 3730 Theodolite Drive in Clay, police said.

Police have not yet identified the person killed in the crash, other than to say she was a 40-year-old woman driving a 2007 Ford Taurus.

A passenger in Taurus, Kristen Kelly, 20, of 330 Plymouth Drive in Syracuse was sent to the hospital, as was Donna Tartaglia, 48, of 706 Oswego St., in Liverpool.

Tartaglia's 2002 Chevrolet pickup was forced off the road by the Taurus.

Robert Phillips, 35, of 5937 Farrington Road, Cicero, was driving behind the Taurus and struck the engine of Stephen's car, which has broken off the frame, sliding into the middle of the road.

Stephan was taken to Upstate University Hospital with multiple injuries. Kelly suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was also taken to Upstate.

Tartaglia was not injured, but was taken to a local hospital for evaluation.

Phillips was not injured, police said.

The crash remains under investigation, the sheriff said, "to determine what charges will be filed against Stephens."

Deputies are continue to attempt to locate another car, possibly an older silver Nissan sedan that was operated by a man with a beard.
