Syracuse, NY –More than 2,000 National Grid customers in Onondaga County and 590 more in the Madison County town of Sullivan lost electricity as a severe thunderstorm rolled through Central New York this morning.
The utility’s Web site reported the following outages: 908 customers are without electricity in Camillus; 769 in Manlius; 220 in DeWitt and 121 in Fayetteville. Scattered outages were reported in other parts of Onondaga County.
Another 590 customers lost electricity in Sullivan, the utility reported. Another 920 in Syracuse regained their power after a brief outage.
National Grid officials estimated most of the big outages would be cleared up by 9 a.m. Fayetteville customers were expected to get their power back by 8:45 a.m.
One wave of heavy weather hit Syracuse about 6:20 a.m. followed by a second wave shortly before 7 a.m. Thirty-eight upstate counties, including Onondaga and its four surrounding counties, remain under a severe thunderstorm watch until 1 p.m.
A spate of calls, apparently storm-related, came into Onondaga County E-911 as the bad weather hit.
A tree came down at a house on East Maple Terrace, Marcellus, followed by a report about 6:30 a.m. of smoke coming from the house.
A tree was reportedly on fire at Hunt Avenue and Sidney Street in Fairmount and power was out in the neighborhood.

Syracuse, NY – Parts of the Syracuse area are under a severe thunderstorm warning.
The National Weather Service in Binghamton issued the warning for central Cayuga, central Onondaga, northwestern Madison and west central Oneida counties.
Doppler radar indicates the storm is capable of producing golf-ball-size hail and winds topping 60 mph.
The weather service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for Onondaga, Madison, Cayuga, Cortland, Oswego and 33 other upstate counties through 1 p.m.
