Hamilton, NY -- Two New Hampshire men were accused of criminal mischief following a fire that destroyed a building the Hamilton Fire Department used for training, New York State Police said this morning.
Samuel D. Kramer, 31, of Portsmouth, N.H., and Darren S. Coco Jr., 23, of Derry, N.H., Thursday were accused of criminal mischief and criminal trespass. They were arraigned in Hamilton Village Court and sent to the Madison County Jail on $1,000 cash bail.
The Hamilton Fire Department was called out at 11 p.m. Wednesday to put out a fire in a vacant building at 2295 State Route 12B in the Town of Madison.
The building is next to the Wendt University Inn just north of the Village of Hamilton. The building, owned by Wesley Wendt, was destroyed by the fire.
An investigation by state police and the Hamilton Police Department found that the two men, who were staying in the motel next door while working in the area, were inside the vacant building when the fire accidentally started.
