Syracuse -- A local peace group will hold a forum tonight to discuss two deaths at the Onondaga County Justice Center jail over the past nine months.
Organized by Act Now to Stop War and End Racism, the forum will start at 7 p.m. at ArtRage Gallery, 505 Hawley Ave.
It will focus on the November death of inmate Chuniece Patterson after one of her fallopian tubes ruptured from an ectopic pregnancy while she was in jail, and last week’s death of Raul Pinet Jr. after he was booked.
The state Commission of Correction criticized the jail for the medical treatment Patterson received before her death. Syracuse police and the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office are investigating Pinet’s death.
Three presentations will be made at the forum, followed by a discussion and an organizing session, according to a news release from the peace group.
Relatives of Pinet and Patterson will attend the forum, the news release said.
