Shaggy dog story ends unhappily for self-described 'furry.' See video of Boomer cavorting.
A Pennsylvania man who has spent most of his adult life dressed up as a dog has told by a judge he can't legally change his name to Boomer the Dog.
Gary Guy Mathews, 44, describes himself as a "furry," or a fan of animals with human characteristics. Yes, ladies, he's single. And unemployed.
Mathews told the New York Post he was inspired by a short-lived 1980s NBC show called "Here's Boomer," about a shaggy dog that helped people in trouble.
The judge ruled that the name change would cause confusion and could put public welfare at risk, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported. "Doggone it, well I wasn't too confident about it going through at this stage, just from the vibe that I was getting in the courtroom," Mathews e-mailed the paper.
