Syracuse, NY -- A burglary was discovered Monday evening at a South Salina Street church and the pastor is asking for the community’s help in the return of stolen computers and sound equipment.

The break-in at the People’s AME Zion Church, 2306 S. Salina St., was discovered when ministry staff entered the church for a congregational meeting, the Rev. Daren C. Jaime said today. The break in occurred between Sunday and Monday evenings.

Glass on the floor was the first clue that something wasn’t right, Jaime said, and then it was discovered that the church’s audio-visual room and financial rooms were ransacked. It’s believed the suspects broke a window to the gymnasium to gain entrance, Jaime said.

Taken were microphones and sound equipment used to record the weekly services for radio broadcasts and tapes for distribution, Jaime said. Computers, which had historical and sensitive records on them, were also taken, he said.

“We really want to see these come back,” Jaime said.

Jaime estimated the loss to the church from the burglary at about $10,000.

In exchange for the return of the items stolen, Jaime says he will ask for leniency and will give assistance to the suspects.

“We’ll even help them where ever they are in life,” Jaime said.

Jaime asked anyone with any information on the burglary to contact him at 315-472-1198.
