Syracuse, NY--It costs $52 less a week on average to send an infant to a licensed child care center in Cayuga County than in neighboring Onondaga County, Child Care Solutions said this morning.

The organization that serves as a child care resource and referral agency for Cayuga and Onondaga Counties has released its 2010 report on the local costs of regulated childcare.

The report shows significant differences between the counties for the cost of care by centers, licensed group family child care homes and registered family child care homes.

It costs $202 a week on average to send an infant to a licensed child care center in Onondaga County compared with $150 a week for centers in Cayuga County. Fees for centers in both counties drop as the child ages.

The same is true of licensed group family child care homes and registered family child care homes.

Central New York’s child care costs are less than costs in the nation’s largest cities, according to a recent report by the National Association of Child Care Resource & Referral Agencies.

Financial aid is available to help qualified working families pay for childcare. Parents can call Child Care solutions at 446-1220, or 888-729-7290, ext. 303, to see if they are eligible for assistance.

Government child care subsidies are available to eligible working families who earn 165 percent of the federal poverty level in Cayuga County and 200 percent in Onondaga County
