Clay, NY -- A 95-year-old woman was taken to the hospital for treatment of a head cut following a two-car accident this morning on West Taft Road in front of the North Medical Center.

Onondaga County Sheriff's deputies said Margaret Peston, no address available, was a passenger in a Chrysler Sebring being driven east on West Taft shortly before 10:46 a.m. when the accident occurred.

Stan Backus, 70, of Baldwinsville, was trying to turn his Chevrolet 4x4 pickup truck left out of the medical center's parking lot onto West Taft, deputies said. Backus' view was blocked by a Centro bus at a stop west of the driveway and he did not see the eastbound Chrysler, deputies said.

Neither Backus nor the Chrysler's driver, Harold Hummel, no age available, of Solvay, was injured, deputies said.

Peston was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital Health Center for treatment.

No tickets were expected to be issued, deputies said.

Officials diverted eastbound traffic into the medical center parking lot and reduced westbound traffic to one lane as they removed Peston and put the stricken cars on flatbed trucks. The road reopened about 11:15 a.m.
