Syracuse, NY -- Working smoke detectors and a quick phone call helped limit fire damage to one room of a Pond Street apartment Tuesday afternoon, fire officials said.
A 3:30 p.m. fire in an upstairs apartment at 201 Pond Street was quickly extinguished by Syracuse firefighters and contained to a bedroom.
No one was hurt, said District Chief Michael Chura. He said firefighters struggled with high heat and humidity, but because the tenant called as soon as she heard smoke detectors go off, the apartment should be OK to live in after a some minor repairs and a bit of cleaning.
Investigators were looking into the cause of the fire.
